Cardiff City transfer news as new signing bullishly describes playing style, Ikpeazu's name floated and Warnock hits back at Spence dig

The latest Cardiff City headlines for Monday, May 30

Tanner's exciting style of play description

New Cardiff City signing Ollie Tanner will have excited supporters by the way in which he described his style of play in a Q&A with the club's website.

When asked to describe how he plays, the 20-year-old said : "I am a direct winger, I use pace and power to beat players, score goals and get assists."

That is exactly what Cardiff have been lacking since the likes of Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Josh Murphy have been out of the club.

Gaining a greater insight into Tanner as a person, he described Lionel Messi as his favourite player, the Nou Camp as the stadium he wants to play at most and named his dad as his inspiration growing up.

But in a telling message to young City fans, following his own path from non-league to the Championship with Cardiff City, Tanner said: "Never give up. Never give up on what you want to do, because you never know what's going to happen in the future."

He's got his move to City and now the club will hope he pays them back with those goals and assists in the upcoming campaign.

Uche surplus to requirements at Boro

Uche Ikpeazu's name will already have been circulated around potential suitors this summer with the striker surplus to requirements at Middlesbrough, according to TeessideLive.

Ikpeazu arrived on loan in January and scored two crucial goals for Cardiff, the first against Barnsley and the second against Derby County, both in 1-0 wins, as the Bluebirds were looking to claw their way away from the bottom three.

However, having returned to Boro, it looks as though Chris Wilder wants shot of him as quickly as possible in order to get two new strikers in to complement Duncan Watmore and Josh Coburn. As things stand, Cardiff don't appear to be in the running to bring him back to the Welsh capital next term.

"It’s rather ironic that Wilder has found himself with two additional strikers in Uche Ikpeazu and Chuba Akpom, both of whom have returned from loan spells," TeessideLive report.

"Ikpeazu is an honest fellow but fell short of what Boro were looking for last season, while Akpom has had his opportunity and not come up for scratch. It suggests that Wilder will be looking at Duncan Watmore and Josh Coburn and two others as he formulates his attack for next season.

"Ikpeazu and Akpom are among the list of fringe players whose names are already likely to have been circulated around other clubs."

Warnock comes back at Spence after jibe

Now that Wagatha Christie appears to have whittled out of the public's consciousness, Neil Warnock and Djed Spence thought they would satiate the appetite after Nottingham Forest's play-off final win over Huddersfield Town.

Spence, of course, was told he was surplus to requirements by Warnock at Middlesbrough at the start of the campaign and he was sent out on loan to Forest in the summer window.

The England under-21 international went on to become one of the standout players of the season in the Championship and was a cornerstone of Forest's success. So, after the win at Wembley on Sunday, Spence wasted no time in aiming a dig at his old Boro boss.

"Where are my manners," Djed wrote on Twitter, "Welcome to Twitter @warnockofficial," marking the 73-year-old's arrival on the platform last week. The caption was written above a photo of Spence with the play-off trophy and a cigar in the mouth.

Former Bluebirds boss Warnock hit back on Monday, though, writing in response: "Well done Djed, I did say you were Premier League or non league, glad you listened and took my advice on board now go and enjoy your success.

"Those cigars won’t do you any good though son."

Jenkins' Yeovil takeover is off

The bid to take over Yeovil Town led by former Cardiff City director Julian Jenkins has ended.

Simul Sports Group, whose director is Jenkins, were thought to be close to taking over the National League outfit. Indeed, back in January Jenkins said the deal was in its "final stages".

However in a series of tweets by Damien Singh, chief finance officer of online graphic design tool Canva who has involvement with the Jenkins-led takeover, stated the deal had hit the kibosh.

His tweets read: “Regrettably after a protracted period of due diligence during which we have expended significant time, energy and financial resources, we have had to cease our efforts to secure ownership of Yeovil Town Football Club.

”We unfortunately could not conclude our negotiations despite a series of recent offers with funds placed on our solicitors account.

”Yeovil Town is a special club, I’ve visited Huish Park on a number of occasions and have family in the area. We had big plans to restore the glory days and footballing pride to the community. But disappointingly that has come to an end for us today.

”Myself and the other members of the group, Darren DeLandro and Marc Bircham, acknowledge that this is a difficult period for the fans and we want to wish the Glovers all the best for the future. No further comment will be made at this time.”

Jenkins was at Cardiff for 10 years between 2004 and 2014.
