Cardiff City transfer news as Mark McGuinness back training with Bluebirds and furious Leeds United boss slams 'bullying' tactics

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Thursday, January 12.

Mark McGuinness back in Cardiff and training

Mark McGuinness is back in Cardiff and trained with the Bluebirds today, WalesOnline has learned.

McGuinness has had a barnstorming first half of the season with the League One side, having won the club's Player of the Month award for both November and December, and has grown to become a real fan favourite at Hillsborough.

It has been a week of limbo for the centre-back, 22, who has been training up with Wednesday while Cardiff have tried to navigate their way through the stipulations of the EFL transfer embargo.

Cardiff have been keen to recall the towering centre-half owing to his consistently excellent performances for Darren Moore's promotion-chasing Owls. However, the EFL transfer ban meant they had to wait to bring McGuinness back into the fold.

But he is now back in Cardiff and trained with the squad today as the Bluebirds wait for the paperwork to be completed before his recall is able to be made official.

Marsch says Cardiff tried to 'bully' Leeds players

Jesse Marsch has taken aim at Cardiff after revealing Crysencio Summerville is out for a month following a coming-together with Tom Sang.

Sang slid in from behind during the first half of the FA Cup clash with Leeds on Sunday and appeared to take the ball before his trailing leg went through the back of the wide man.

Summerville continued to play and was taken off on the hour before being replaced by Rodrigo. Now, though, Marsch claims Summerville is set for a spell on the sidelines after the challenge with Sang. He also believed Cardiff tried to "bully" Wilfried Gnonto.

“Cree Summerville is out for a month, probably. The ankle injury and tackle he sustained in the Cardiff match is a little bit of a talking point for me," Marsch said ahead of Leeds' clash with Aston Villa tomorrow.

“Because between Cree and Willy (Gnonto) specifically, opponents have tried to bully them, they have a hard time containing them specifically when they’re on the move in the dribble.

“Frankly, I don’t believe the referees have protected those two players well enough, and it’s put them susceptible to injury and hard tackles and I would like to see the referees protect attacking players more.

“So we’re a little disappointed that Cree will be out.”

Nkounkou still at Cardiff

Niels Nkounkou is still at Cardiff despite recent reports linking him with a move to St Etienne in France.

It is understood that Everton had an option to call him back from his loan on January 10, which was Wednesday, and Cardiff told his parent club he had to work to get back into the team.

As things stand, Callum O'Dowda is the left-back and is enjoying the role and excelling in that position. It appears unlikely that he will be ousted any time soon.

The prospect of Everton finding a different club where he will receive more game-time is still not off the table as things stand, with more than two weeks of the transfer window left to run.

Watters to be involved for Barnsley this weekend

Barnsley boss Michael Duff has confirmed Max Watters could make his debut off the bench during this weekend's clash with Charlton.

The striker has sealed a move to the League One side until the end of the season, but Duff said he is only fit to sit on the bench this weekend.

Duff said of Watters: "He will be involved on Saturday. He's not fit to start; I don't think I am telling any major secrets there.

"He has been short of football, he's not had a lot of minutes anyway - he's been ill and injured for the last month.

"But he's been training with us and had a good week's training, which is what we wanted and we have not scored a goal in the last two games. So he will definitely add to the group."

Derby add former Bluebirds chief scout

Derby have added former Bluebirds chief scout Glyn Chamberlain to their coaching staff, according to DerbyshireLive.

Chamberlain was the head of UK and international scouting at Burnley before moving to Cardiff where he became head of scouting under Neil Warnock.

He then moved to Blackburn Rovers where he was the head of scouting in Europe. Lately he has been at Crewe as a recruitment consultant. Chamberlain used to manage Macclesfield.
