Cardiff City transfer news as Mark Harris finds new club and Yakou Meite sets record straight on where Bulut will play him

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Tuesday, July 11.

Meite sets record straight on his position

Yakou Meite has revealed the position in which Erol Bulut sees him playing this season.

Meite played as a lone striker, a winger and a second striker during his time with Reading, prompting Bluebirds fans to question where new boss Bulut plans to deploy him this season.

Speaking about his conversations with Bulut, Meite said: "He told me that he has known me a long time, not only since he signed for Cardiff.

"He told me how he wanted to use me. He knew that I was playing a lot of positions, striker, on the wing, two strikers, a lone striker. I think he can use me in different positions, but at the moment, when we spoke, it was as a winger.

"But the season is long, it depends on how we do and the opponent as well."

Mark Harris signs for Oxford United

Mark Harris has been signed by League One side Oxford United.

The Bluebirds announced that he would be released last week and supporters were left wondering where he would end up, with a host of League One sides said to be interested in his signature.

Harris, 24, is said to have signed a "long-term deal" at the Kassam Stadium and said of the move: “It’s great to get everything sorted and I’m looking forward to it. The manager told me all about the plans the club has and the way they want to play to get there and his style of football is hopefully going to really suit me.

"I enjoyed my time at Cardiff but this is a chance to make a new start and show what I can do, playing in what we all hope will be a very successful side.”

On social media, Harris wrote of his time with the Bluebirds: "I’ve been at Cardiff for as long as I can remember. I have loved every moment of it and I can’t thank everyone who has helped me along the way enough.

"From making my debut at 18 years old against Fulham, to scoring my first competitive goal against Luton at home in a 4-0 win. I dreamed of doing that since I was a young boy, but now my time has come to end with Cardiff and I’m looking forward to my new challenge. Thank you to all the staff, players and fans."

U's boss Liam Manning said of the signing: "As with all of our signings this summer Mark has a fantastic attitude and outstanding ability. Technically he is very good, he is fast, he creates and scores goal and he is a player I know a lot of clubs were interested in. Signing a full international with his best years ahead of him is a big thing for us and we look forward to working with him.”

Whitts walk in Portugal

Cardiff City fan Will Melhuish will complete a charity walk across the Algarve next week to raise money for Peter Whittingham's PW7 Foundation.

The charity was set up in the wake of Peter's passing, with proceeds from last November's Peter Whittingham memorial match, played against Whitts' first club, Aston Villa, ostensibly launching the charity.

Mr Melhuish will undertake the challenge, called 'Walk for Whitts' in Portugal next week as he attends Cardiff's pre-season camp in the Algarve. The walk is currently set to 50km, but will be much further after the location of the third game is announced by the club.

The itinerary is as follows, he writes:

"Day 1 - arrive in Lagos & attend City vs FC Braga game

"Day 2 - walk from stadium in Lagos to Portimao (20km - 4-6hrs)

"Day 3 - walk from Portimao to Albufeira (30km - 6-8hrs)

"Day 4 - walk from Albufeira to location of 2nd game (distance/duration TBC once match venue announced)

"Day 5 - fly home a broken man!"
