Cardiff City transfer news as Jose Mourinho's Italian giants linked with Gareth Bale and clubs chase outgoing star

Here's your round-up of all the latest Cardiff City headlines for Sunday, June 12.

Roma linked with Bale

Gareth Bale has been strongly linked with Italian giants AS Roma.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Bale's representatives have made contact with the Europa Conference League winners over a potential move this summer.

Boss Jose Mourinho has been a fan of the Welshman in the past, although the relationship between the pair reportedly began to strain when they were at Tottenham Hotspur together.

"I just think they didn’t see football the same way – I’m being very diplomatic here," agent Jonathan Barnett said when discussing Bale's second spell in north London.

"Let’s just say it wasn’t the best return to a club in history."

It remains to be seen whether a reunion could yet be on the cards, with Bale himself recently admitting he was unlikely to make a decision on his future until he returns from holiday after the current international break.

A move to Getafe has been ruled out, but speculation linking Bale with a move to hometown club Cardiff City continues to linger.

Clutch of clubs chasing Vaulks

Sheffield Wednesday are among a number of clubs chasing former Cardiff City midfielder Will Vaulks.

According to The Star, Wednesday face competition from Huddersfield Town, Stoke City, Queens Park Rangers and Luton Town for the midfielder, whose departure from the capital was confirmed towards the end of last week.

Vaulks is no stranger to south Yorkshire having enjoyed a stint at Rotherham shortly before his move to the Bluebirds, and a return to the region might well be of interest this summer.

Wilson fires England warning

Former Cardiff City loanee Harry Wilson has fired a warning to England ahead the World Cup this winter.

Wales take on their rivals in their final game of Group B in Qatar, with the United States and Iran also lying in wait.

The clash against the Three Lions will be the first competitive meeting between the two sides since Wales were beaten 2-1 at Euro 2016, and Wilson, who has since moved to Premier League new boys Fulham, insists his side cannot be underestimated.

“Wales against England is a massive game no matter where it is,” he said. “But with it being on the World Cup, the biggest stage, it is going to be that extra bit more.

“We will be going in there full of confidence and there is no reason why we can’t get a result against England. We would be lying if we said we hadn’t looked at the fixtures. We have friends in the England team. I have a couple in the USA team as well from Fulham.

“We will be having a bit of banter about them, but once those games come around we will be against each other for 90 minutes. I will be doing all I can for Wales and they will be doing all their can for their country.”

The lowdown on O'Dowda

Cardiff City have got their fifth signing of the summer over the line.

Callum O'Dowda has penned a three-year deal with the Bluebirds after six years with Bristol City. On a free transfer, this could prove to be shrewd business from boss Steve Morison, who has already added Ebou Adams, Jak Alnwick, Ollie Tanner and Jamilu Collins to his ranks this off-season.

It's rapid work from the capital city club, and with more signings expected, it's encouraging to see Cardiff get their ducks in a row early on ahead of the new season.

So what of O'Dowda? What can we be expecting from the 27-year-old? We spoke to Gregor MacGregor , a freelance journalist from the south west who has covered O'Dowda's progress with the Robins. Here is the lowdown.
