Cardiff City transfer news as four new signings make bows and Bluebird stands out against Cheltenham Town

Here are your Cardiff City headlines on Saturday, July 16

New signings make bows

New Cardiff signings Cedric Kipre, Romaine Sawyers, Sheyi Ojo and Callum O'Dowda made their Bluebirds bows in the pre-season friendly against Cheltenham Town on Saturday afternoon.

The quartet were named on the bench at Whaddon Road and all saw action in the second half in blistering conditions in Gloucestershire, in a match the visitors snatched late on.

In Ojo's case it was a second debut for Cardiff, having re-signed for the club following a successful loan stint in south Wales.

Manager Steve Morison rang the changes on the hour mark, bringing on a new XI including the four named above.

There was still no sign of Rubin Colwill though, who has yet to be involved so far this pre-season.

Sang stands out against Robins

Tom Sang did his chances of first-team inclusion this season no harm at all with yet another accomplished performance on Saturday.

The midfielder followed up impressive showings against Cambridge United and Newport County with another strong showing in Gloucestershire, and looks to be growing in confidence in his previously unfamiliar midfield role.

Speaking after the clash against the Exiles last Tuesday, Morison admitted Sang was now 'in the mix' for contention, and his chances of forcing himself into the senior set-up ahead of the opening-day clash at home to Norwich City grew again here.

"Tom wasn't involved at the start of pre-season, but he has come in and I thought he has been excellent," Morison said ahead of Saturday's clash.

"Maybe he might start believing he is a central midfielder!"

Under-21s start with defeat

Cardiff Under-21s went down 1-0 to Carmarthen Town in their first friendly of pre-season.

The young Bluebirds travelled west to face the Old Gold at Richmond Park, with Will Rickard's second-half goal for the home side deciding matters.

As ever at this time of the season, last night was all about getting miles in the tank ahead of a new campaign. Despite the result boss Darren Purse was happy with what he saw.

"I thought in the first half we played some really good football," Purse said. "It was a really good workout for the boys as our first pre-season game, with today being the first time in game that they'd had since last season.

"In the last 30 minutes of the game we were erratic, but before that we had some good passages of play, but just lacked that end product. It will be all about players now stepping up their workrate. I thought that the intensity was there, but in the second half we just stepped off it a little bit, with the lack of polish being there when you consider that it is our first game.

"I'm never happy to lose a game of football, but it was good for the boys and hopefully they'll learn from the experience, matching that physicality when they play against sides like they did today."

Cardiff City Under-21s: Turner (Luthra 46'), Jones (Benjamin 46'), MacNamara (Davies 46'), Trialist, Clay (Semenyo 46'), Kenniford, Colwill, Hughes (Ashford 46'), Ligendza, Trialist, Wigley (Jefferies 46').

Bluebirds unveil new kit

Cardiff have unveiled their brand new away kit for the upcoming season.

The kit, the second to be released by new kit supplier New Balance, features a grey design that fades to black towards the bottom of the shirt, blending in with black shorts and grey socks.

It also features a Bluebirds crest on the back of the neck and a grey and black badge on the front. It's the first time Cardiff have worn grey, having turned out in pink for their away kit last season.
