Cardiff City transfer news as Blackburn Rovers man on radar and Bluebirds keep tabs on forward

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Thursday, May 25.

City looking at Rovers defender

Cardiff are keeping tabs on Blackburn Rovers left-back Tayo Edun.

City have no manager in place as things stand, meaning that all targets and players on shortlists are ultimately subject to opinion once the new manager is appointed, whenever that might be.

The Bluebirds were knocked back in a deadline-day loan bid for Rovers' Edun in January as they looked to address the issue for the back half of the season. However, we understand he is someone the club continues to monitor, with the 25-year-old having been restricted to only eight Championship appearances for the Ewood Park outfit last term.

Quite what that would mean for Bagan is up in the air right now and probably one for the new manager to make a call on. Sabri Lamouchi wanted to keep him and advised that the player be offered a new deal and we've no reason to believe he has been let go. However, he would ideally get a loan away from Cardiff to start racking up some game-time.

Bluebirds among clubs to have watched Premier League forward

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is drawing interest from a number of Championship clubs this summer and Cardiff have had eyes on him.

The Crystal Palace forward, 20, impressed hugely while on loan at Charlton Athletic in League One last season, scoring 15 goals and providing eight assists in 43 league appearances for the Addicks. Cardiff are in the market for at least one striker and the England youth international can expect to be in the conversation when the new manager arrives.

Seeing how top prospects from the Premier League's under-21s leagues fare on their first loan, typically in Leagues One and Two is all part of Cardiff's recruitment process.

City were at games in which Rak-Sakyi played last season, but, of course, were not alone, with a number of interested parties from their divisional rivals also attended.

King and Colwill in Wales camp

Cardiff duo Eli King and Rubin Colwill are among the 34 players currently at a Wales training camp at The Vale.

A mixture of 12 senior players and 24 under-21s players have met up ahead of both the senior and junior teams' fixtures in the coming weeks.

Following the training camp, Rob Page will announce his squad for the upcoming matches at home to Armenia (Friday, June 16) and away to Turkey (Monday, June 19) at the Urdd Eisteddfod in Llandovery on Tuesday, May 30.

Matty Jones’ side are preparing for the start of the 2025 UEFA U21 Euro qualifiers, during which they will face Denmark at Vejle on Tuesday, June 20.

Colwill was, of course, at the World Cup with Wales last November, but a number of injury troubles have hampered his progress and he was selected for the under-21s in the last camp. A good international break and a big pre-season is what Cardiff will be hoping for.

While Eli King's situation at Cardiff is still officially unresolved, with Lamouchi having recommended he get a contract before it was decided the manager would leave. At time of writing, though, there is nothing to suggest he will leave Cardiff.

Bothroyd in Ted Lasso

And finally, Cardiff City legend Jay Bothroyd was spotted by eagle-eyed fans of the hit TV show Ted Lasso this week.

The Apple TV+ show depicts manager Lasso's AFC Richmond take on Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in this week's episode. And who should lead out Pep's players? Well, City legend Bothroyd, of course!

Bothroyd, along with former Wolves defender George Elokobi, were Citizens for the day as they walked out of the tunnel alongside the AFC Richmond players, donning the Sky Blue shirt.

And Bothroyd can thank Kasali Casal, a former professional footballer who used to play for the likes of DC United and Fulham, for his part in the show. Casal told FourFourTwo that he was recruited as a football consultant to make the gameplay scenes more realistic, and as a result recruited the likes of Bothroyd, Elokobi, Jermaine Pennant and Lee Hendrie.
