Cardiff City transfer headlines as Wolves in last-gasp Kieffer Moore move, Joe Bennett joins new club as Liverpool star in talks over loan switch

Here is your Cardiff City transfer deadline day bulletin for Tuesday, August 31.

Wolves back in for Moore as they lodge bid for striker

Wolves are back in for Kieffer Moore, according to The Telegraph.

It comes as The Athletic also claim that the Molineux outfit have submitted a bid for an unknown striker late on transfer deadline day.

The Premier League side were linked with a move for Cardiff City star Moore late last week, however Mick McCarthy had insisted he had no contact with any club as late as Saturday afternoon.

And, as of Tuesday morning, the Bluebirds had not received any formal bid for the player.

This late update, though, is not what Cardiff fans would have wanted.

It will leave them scrambling in the final hours of the window for a replacement.

Bluebirds duo linked with moves away

One deadline day surprise is that Cardiff City duo Josh Murphy and Alex Smithies have been linked with a move away from Cardiff City Stadium.

Football Insider claimed that a number of clubs had registered an interest in taking Murphy on loan this season. WalesOnline also understands that to be true.

Murphy has been unused in the Championship this term, but did score in the Bluebirds' 3-2 win over Sutton United.

Meanwhile, Football Insider also claim that Alex Smithies is being targeted by Sheffield United.

The goalkeeper has just one year left on his Bluebirds contract and it is thought the Blades see him as an ideal replacement for Aaron Ramsdale, who joined Arsenal earlier in the window.

Smithies is believed to be one of the higher earners at Cardiff City.

Joe Bennett joins Latics

Former Cardiff City defender Joe Bennett has signed for Wigan Athletic.

The Bluebirds allowed the left-back's contract to run down and he departed the club this summer, having failed to agree terms on a new deal.

The defender has worked hard to get back to full training after suffering an ACL injury back in March and undergoing surgery.

He has been training with the Bluebirds all summer as he underwent his rehabilitation, but the club had already made the decision to install Joel Bagan as first-choice left-back this season.

But the Bluebirds' loss is seemingly Wigan's gain, with the League One club announcing the 31-year-old's arrival on the evening of transfer deadline day.

Liverpool star linked with loan move

Liverpool forward Sheyi Ojo has been linked with a loan move away to two unnamed Championship clubs.

The Bluebirds took the winger on loan last term and expressed an interest in potentially taking him again this season.

However, Cardiff were seemingly resigned to Liverpool selling the winger permanently, therefore a loan move looked off the table.

But, with just hours left in the window, Goal reporter Neil Jones claims that two Championship clubs are in talks with Liverpool over a potential loan move.
