Cardiff City transfer headlines as Bluebirds linked with exciting triple swoop

These are your Cardiff City transfer headlines on Tuesday, April 19.

Three new faces targeted amid ambitious Wallace swoop

Cardiff have been linked with a triple swoop for Ryan Allsop, Michael Hector and Jed Wallace.

With Derby’s fate sealed and Wayne Rooney’s side condemned to League One, goalkeeper Allsop could be a realistic target. He established himself as Rooney’s number one choice from December onwards, and although the Rams couldn’t avoid relegation, Morison seems keen on the shot-stopper, with Alex Smithies leaving at the end of the campaign.

Hector, meanwhile, has fallen out of favour under Marco Silva at Fulham this season. The Jamaican centre-back has played a bit-part role in the Cottagers' promotion push and has been limited to three league appearances this term. With question marks remaining over Sean Morrison and Aden Flint as their contracts run down, links with 29-year-old Hector could have basis.

Wallace was a former team-mate of Steve Morison at Millwall during the time they spent together at The Den from 2016 to 2019. His contract expires at the end of the season, but he will not be short of suitors, with competition likely to be fierce for the winger.

Sharp could be back for Cardiff clash

Having picked up a hamstring injury just before the international break in March, Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom is hopeful of having his star player, Billy Sharp, back for the Bluebirds' visit this Saturday.

Top of both the goals and assists chart for his side, Sharp has been a big loss for the Blades. In the five games played in his absence, play-off chasing Sheffield have scored only three goals and picked up just five points from a possible 15.

Heckingbottom said: “I’m hoping to have Billy. Everything has to go to plan for that, he needs to have the perfect week in terms of hitting all his markers. We need to make sure he's fit and available and ready to help us because we want him back.”

Cardiff Under-23s bout with Charlton

Max Watters made his return from injury in Cardiff's 6-1 drubbing at the hands of Charlton this afternoon.

The young Bluebirds took the lead through Isaac Jefferies but Daniel Kanu scored his 37th goal of the season to draw Charlton level. Cardiff then went into the break 2-1 down. Just three minutes into the second half, the young Addicks extended their lead after a fine long-range effort from Karoy Anderson.

The Addicks added goals through Kanu (two) and Miles Leaburn. Watters has been out of action since twisting his ankle in training some two months ago.

Cardiff Women in cup final

Cardiff City Women take on Cardiff Met on Sunday in the FAW Women’s Cup. Cardiff Women booked their place in the final with a 4-3 win against arch rivals Swansea, back in March.

They face a Cardiff Met side who came back from behind against Pontypridd Town to win 4-1. The competition, formed in 1992, has been won by Cardiff City Women a record 11 times, as they look to add a 12th title next weekend.
