Cardiff City transfer headlines as Bluebirds cool interest in Portsmouth winger and bookies continue to back Gareth Bale move

Here are the latest transfer headlines from the Cardiff City Stadium for Monday, July 19.

Cardiff cool interest in Curtis

Cardiff City have reportedly cooled their interest in Portsmouth winger Ronan Curtis.

The 25-year-old has been a player of interest for City this summer, and is well known to boss Mick McCarthy due to their time together in the Ireland set-up.

But The News now claims that the Bluebirds have decided against firming up their interest with a concrete bid.

The same report claims Pompey, who value the player at £2m, have contacted both Cardiff and fellow admirers Blackburn Rovers over the possibility of a move, only to be met with a "tepid response".

It's now being reported that neither side are now likely to step up their interest, although WalesOnline understands there is still a possibility that Cardiff may revisit a potential deal should circumstances change.

Curtis himself has made little secret of his interest to test himself in the second tier, but any move is now unlikely to happen until the latter stages of the transfer window.

The development comes after McCarthy told WalesOnline over the weekend that City were unlikely to bring in any new faces before the close of the transfer window.

Owls join the hunt for Jack

Sheffield Wednesday have joined the race for reported Cardiff City target Jack Hunt.

Reports previously suggested Cardiff and Blackpool were monitoring the right-back, who's a free agent after leaving Bristol City.

And our colleagues at YorkshireLive now understand that the Owls are monitoring Hunt's situation, and are interested in bringing him back to South Yorkshire.

The full-back enjoyed a three-year stint for the club between 2015 and 2018, racking up 100 league appearances.

Whether he would be interested in dropping down to League One remains to be seen.

Boro mulling over Bamba contract

Middlesbrough could potentially offer Sol Bamba a contract for the new season, should he prove his fitness to boss Neil Warnock.

That's according to Football League World, who claim that the 36-year-old could well be poised to link up once again with his former boss for the new Championship campaign.

The pair enjoy a good relationship following their time in the Welsh capital together, with Bamba training with Boro following his release from the Bluebirds earlier this summer.

Now, reports claim that Warnock may well be ready to offer him a deal to sign on at the Riverside should he impress during the pre-season programme.

Cardiff still favourites for Bale

Cardiff are now clear favourites with the bookies to sign Gareth Bale this summer.

At the time of writing, the Bluebirds have been cut to odds as short as 5/4 with Sky Bet, while William Hill also have Cardiff has 11/8 favourites.

According to Oddschecker, 64 per cent of all bets in the past week have backed Cardiff as the 32-year old's next destination.

Spurs have drifted to 8/1 after Nuno Espirito Santo appeared to rule out a return this summer, with the next challenger to Cardiff now 'any MLS side', which is currently priced at 13/2.

Bale is currently set to return to Real Madrid, where he has one year left on his current deal, but his future has been the subject of constant speculation for weeks, with some reports even suggesting he could even consider retiring next summer.

Commenting on the speculation, Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson said: “In what would be a sensational Welsh homecoming, could Gareth Bale really move to Championship side Cardiff City?

“Whether it’s the allure of Mick McCarthy or feeling homesick, one thing that is certain is bookies and punters alike believe Bale is on his way to back to Wales."
