Cardiff City to battle with rivals Bristol City over Croatian striker - reports

Cardiff City are reportedly lining up a move to land a deal for Croatian striker Petar Musa.

The Bluebirds are known to be in the market for a striker this month, with Isaac Vassell likely to be out for at least a couple of months and Gary Madine having left the club to join Blackpool.

Last week City had a bid of £2.3m turned down for Wigan striker Kieffer Moore and subsequently cooled their interest, with the Latics demanding closer to £4m.

However, it now appears the Bluebirds have set their sights on a new target - but face stiff competition from Severnside rivals Bristol City.

Musa, 21, is currently on loan at Slovan Liberec from Slavia Prague and has shot into the consciousness of clubs on these shores after scoring eight goals in 21 games in all competitions so far this season.

Sources at both Cardiff and Bristol have reportedly told Football Insider that they are interested in securing a deal for him before the end of the month.

With Musa currently on loan, it is thought Slavia Prague are considering ending his stay at Slovan Liberec after learning of interest from clubs in England and Wales.

Bluebirds boss Neil Harris has spoken of his desire to add to the squad this month and says he is working every hour of the day behind the scenes to add quality to the squad he already has.

"Obviously with Gary (Madine) going, Armand Traore leaving away, straight away there is two positions that need maybe more strength in depth," Harris said recently .

"We’ve enquired quite strongly about a couple of players and were quite close on one, but hasn’t quite materialised.

"So we are working quite diligently and aggressively behind the scenes.

"Fantastic support from the board and it’s trying to make sure we add to the qualities we’ve got.

"I’m really proud of the group I’ve got but sometimes you need to add a bit of impetus to it."
