Cardiff City to appoint former Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy as manager

Cardiff City are set to appoint former Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy as their new manager, according to reports.

WalesOnline have reported that the former Black Cats boss is set to be unveiled either this evening or tomorrow morning.

The Bluebirds parted company Neil Harris and assistant David Livermore yesterday, Thursday January 21, after a miserable run of form which has left them 13 points off the play-offs.

Cardiff have moved quickly to appoint Harris' successor, with McCarthy their man of choice.

The 61-year-old recently managed Cypriot side APOEL before leaving the club earlier this month after just two months in charge.

It is believed there were a number of candidates who have applied and been contacted following Harris' departure, but City have opted the bring the the two-time Republic of Ireland manager to south Wales.

McCarthy has won promotion with both Sunderland and Wolves during his managerial career, but has a serious task ahead of him if he is to get Cardiff within a sniff of promotion his term.
