Cardiff City starlet completes transfer as EFL club in swoop for Peterborough target

League One outfit MK Dons have completed a season-long loan deal for Cardiff City's Max Watters.

The 22-year-old forward joined Cardiff from Crawley Town back in January, having scored 16 goals in 19 games for the League Two club.

However, after a lack of game-time, he has now left the Bluebirds this summer.

The League One side were looking to bolster their forward stable after former Bluebird Cameron Jerome left for Luton Town this summer.

It appears to be a deal that makes a lot of sense for Watters, especially if he is to get some senior football into his legs next term.

Neil Harris started Watters immediately, but it proved to be the manager's final game in charge. After Mick McCarthy arrived, Watters fell down the pecking order dramatically.

He was consigned to the under-23s, but continued to score goals regularly for the young Bluebirds. However McCarthy appeared to prefer Mark Harris as the alternative striker option.

It also spoke volumes that Isaak Davies was expected to start the final game of the season against Rotherham before an injury on the eve of the game put paid to that idea.

Just this month, recently-promoted Championship side Peterborough United were linked with a transfer for Watters, with the Peterborough Telegraph claiming that Cardiff were ready to cut their losses on the forward.

However, a loan move always seemed to be the one that made sense, and a move to MK Dons could do him the world of good if he is to rediscover his prolific form in front of goal.

Watters played just three matches for Cardiff after joining, starting one and coming on for two fleeting substitute appearances.
