Cardiff City star Callum Robinson sent off for throwing ball in Ben Cabango's face just minutes into South Wales derby

Cardiff City striker Callum Robinson was sent off after just seven minutes in the South Wales derby for throwing the ball in Swansea City defender Ben Cabango's face.

Just minutes into the match at the Swansea.com Stadium Robinson and Matt Grimes contested a ball in the Bluebirds' half which resulted in a free-kick for the home side.

In a hurry to get play going again, Cabango tried to wrestle the ball from Robinson, pushing the striker in the process, who responded by throwing the ball in the centre-back's face from close quarters.

Players then surrounded referee Darren Bond who after consulting his assistant had little choice but to send the forward off.

"It's a moment of madness from Callum Robinson!" said Sky Sports commentator Gary Weaver. "He will leave the field with a head full of regret."

Co-commentator Andy Hinchcliffe said: "Before the game Callum Robinson was talking about his excitement about playing in a South Wales derby but you've got to temper that.

"An experienced player you can't do anything stupid. Throwing a ball into the face of an opponent, what do you expect?

"You've got to be calm, you've got to be cool, you're experienced, you should know better. It's exactly what the Swansea players want, it's exactly what Cabango's looking for. You cannot react like that."
