Cardiff City Stadium Covid testing centre to close for each fixture this season

The Cardiff City Stadium mass Covid testing site will close every time there is a home game, health officials have confirmed.

The often busy test site in Leckwith will be unavailable for two days each time Cardiff City or Wales play at the stadium.

Health officials said capacity at other testing centres will be increased to compensate for the closure.

A spokesperson for the Cardiff and Vale Test, Trace, Protect service said: "The site will close for two days each time the stadium is used for a match.

"However, this does not reduce the availability of Covid-19 tests in Cardiff as the capacity at the other testing centres is increased to compensate. If there are significant increases in demand then mobile testing sites can be quickly established to address this.

“When the testing centre at Cardiff City Stadium is not available capacity is increased at the other testing sites across Cardiff and the Vale.

“The testing team closely monitor the demand for appointments against available appointments. Mobile testing units are also available during spikes in demand and can be deployed rapidly.

"There are currently no plans to move the testing site away from the Cardiff City Stadium."
