Cardiff City scouring Europe for new striker as Neil Warnock reveals the signing who is 'Premier League class'

Neil Warnock has revealed Cardiff City are scouring Europe for a new striker as they continue to consider adding to their squad.

With goals in short supply in the Premier League last year, Warnock and the Bluebirds are contemplating splashing the cash on a new forward as they look to continue their summer business after adding three new players last week.

Having signed goalkeeper Joe Day, defender Curtis Nelson and midfielder Will Vaulks, the manager is still on the lookout for another midfielder and winger - with the jury still out on whether another striker will be on his shopping list

But, speaking at an event to promote club doctor Len Nokes' new book Only Time Will Tell: A Father's Journey , Warnock revealed that the club have certainly left no stone unturned in their search for a suitable striker - although it seems clear they won't buy a new forward simply for the sake of an extra body.

"We're looking at all the foreign markets as well as English and if we can get somebody, possibly more at a good age rather than an experienced player," said Warnock.

"If we could get someone at a good age to come in and give us something different, we'd go for that.

"I think if the right one came along and we could do it, then we'd probably sign a striker.

"It's whether we can get something better than what we've got at this level. That's what concerns me."

However, the Yorkshireman admitted any business is unlikely to be done until after the Bluebirds return from their pre-season tour of America.

"I can't see us doing an awful lot until we look at if anybody's leaving," he added.

"I think in the next two weeks we won't be doing anything until we come back from America and then we'll know by then.

"If there's one or two leaving, we'll have a better idea of what we need by then. I haven't really got a number in my mind or definite positions because I think a lot depends on whether people come in for my players."

Warnock also spoke about the new signing who he believes should have been playing at the "top level for many years".

New centre-back Curtis Nelson has been playing in League One for Oxford United, but his new boss thinks Nelson should have been plying his trade in the first tier, not the third.

"Curtis Nelson has got a lot to prove," explained the 70-year-old. "I think he should have been at the top level for many years now.

"He's been at lesser club, without knocking them.

"I watched him six or seven years ago at Plymouth and I always felt he could go to the top.

"So I'm hoping I can turn him into a really top-class defender because he's got all the attributes."

Only Time Will Tell: A Father's Journey is available to buy from the Cardiff City Stadium Superstore now for £7.95 or via www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/OnlyTime2019 (plus postage and packing). The book will also be available from selected British Heart Foundation stores around Wales later in the summer.
