Cardiff City's problematic right-back search takes turn as Bluebirds identify new signing

Cardiff City are lining up a move for Crewe Alexandra right-back Perry Ng.

The Bluebirds have expressed a serious interest in the 24-year old, who currently has six months left on his contract at Gresty Road.

City boss Neil Harris is understood to be eyeing up reinforcements at right-back in the January transfer window, and the hope is that someone will be able to arrive on a permanent deal rather than on another loan.

Arsenal loanee Jordi Osei-Tutu is still battling for full fitness, while the club have shed a number of full-back options in recent windows, including Lee Peltier, Jazz Richards, Cameron Coxe and Dion Sanderson.

Leandro Bacuna has often been left to plug the gap, a move that some believe has deprived the Bluebirds of energy in midfield.

Harris will surely be hoping that he can bring in some new faces in this window, with a run of one win in five putting the former Millwall boss under increased pressure heading into the FA Cup third-round clash with Nottingham Forest this weekend.

The club are also understood to be on the lookout for a new striker, but their efforts to strengthen are unlikely to see them splash the cash.

It's for that reason that a move for Ng, who has previously been linked with Derby County and Nottingham Forest, makes sense.

With the risk of losing him for nothing in the summer, one suspects Crewe could be willing to listen to offers for their skipper, who's made 20 appearances for the League One side this season.

Ng was crowned the club's Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year last season, after playing a key role in Alex's promotion to the third tier.
