Cardiff City's Greg Cunningham close to sealing move to Blackburn Rovers - reports

Cardiff City's Greg Cunningham is reportedly on the cusp of sealing a season-long loan deal to Blackburn Rovers.

Cunningham wants to quit Cardiff to seek regular first-team action, having played just eight times since his move from Preston last summer.

Joe Bennett is Warnock's first choice at left-back, and rightly so, and Cunningham knows he would be playing second fiddle if he stayed in the Welsh capital this season.

A number of Championship clubs were said to be keen on him but it now appears that Blackburn have won the race to his signature.

Both Football Insider and the BBC claim Neil Warnock is willing loan Cunningham to Blackburn with the Republic of Ireland international well down the pecking order at Cardiff.

Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray is thought to want to add experience to his side and Cunningham, 28, comes with a wealth of knowledge following successful stints at Bristol City and Preston.

Cunningham was handed his first cap for the Republic of Ireland back in 2010, but back in June was included in the squad for their Euro 2020 qualifiers against Denmark and Gibraltar.

Though it has been six years since he made an appearance for his country, he will hope a move to Blackburn will reignite not only his club career but his international ambitions.
