Cardiff City's disappointing player ratings as Watters erratic and others have off night at Middlesbrough

Dillon Phillips 4

Should have done better with Marcus Tavernier's goal, getting a hand on it but not doing enough to save it. Kicking struggled, too.

Cody Drameh 5

Was largely OK, defensively, but we didn't see any of his attacking flair due to him being in a back four. His loose pass gave the ball away for Boro's second.

Curtis Nelson 6

Probably the pick of the bunch at the back, although had chances to block both goals. Unfortunate the second goal deflected heavily off him.

Oliver Denham 5

Can't really fault him for too much. Lost the odd aerial duel and got caught out once or twice, but otherwise did OK. Cautioned for trying to stop a Boro breakaway.

Perry Ng 5

A mixed night for the makeshift left-back. Produced a number of cynical fouls and gave the ball away a bit too much. Booked for a professional foul.

Tommy Doyle 5

Neat and tidy enough on the ball but just doesn't seem to be making those telling passes or crosses like he did a couple of weeks ago.

Ryan Wintle 5

A quiet evening for the midfielder. Didn't really notice too much of his typically excellent defensive work and did little going forward.

Will Vaulks 4

A few petulant acts and moaning at officials when it didn't go his way. Dithered on the ball a little and gave it away a few times, too. Booked for a coming-together with Jonny Howson.

Rubin Colwill 6 (star man)

The one who really looked like he was going to cause damage, especially early on. Took the ball brilliantly on the half-turn, beat defenders and set up a number of good chances. Became sloppy and tired late on, giving the ball away too much.

Max Watters 4

A tough one to mark. Looked bright at the start and was at the centre of a lot of positivity, but his final product was frustrating and erratic. Hit one cross at the bar and another to his centre-back! Subbed.

Jordan Hugill 5

Was a really quiet return to the Riverside for him, save a first-time effort before half-time which fizzed over the bar. Subbed off late on.

Subs

Mark Harris (Watters 63) 5 - Could tell he was trying to make things happen, but didn't really make a noticeable impact.

James Collins (Hugill 80) NA - Didn't really notice him after coming on, other than giving away a foul.
