Cardiff City players wear T-shirts in support of Sol Bamba in Norwich City warm-up following cancer diagnosis

Cardiff City players showed their support for team-mate Sol Bamba by wearing T-shirts with his name on them on Saturday.

The club and the wider footballing community was rocked this week when news of Bamba's devastating cancer diagnosis emerged.

In a statement on Monday evening the club asked for privacy for Bamba, with messages of best wishes flooding in for the fan favourite.

Manager Neil Harris later updated supporters on how Bamba was feeling and how the rest of the squad reacted to the news, revealing the training ground was an "emotional" place earlier this week.

On Saturday afternoon, during the warm-up for their Championship clash against Norwich City, players wore blue T-shirts with the words "we fight with you" on the front and Bamba's name and number - 22 - on the back.

On Thursday, Bamba spoke for the first time since the news, thanking everyone for their support. The Ivorian defender, who has already began chemotherapy treatment, celebrated his 36th birthday on Wednesday and, alongside a photo of him during a subdued celebration, laid bare his gratitude for the countless messages he has received.

"Thank you for all your birthday and well wishes over the last few days," he wrote on Instagram.

"Your support at times has left me speechless and I’m sorry that I couldn’t reply to every message but believe me I read them all!

"I know I’m going to get through this."
