Cardiff City player ratings as Joel Colwill and Mark McGuinness impress in TNS win

First-half team

Jak Alnwick 6

Didn't have a great deal to do and couldn't stop Danny Redmond's thunderbolt.

Perry Ng 6

Nice to see him roving in midfield as an inverted right back. Picked up good positions but misplaced a couple of passes.

Mark McGuinness 7

Another really good 45 in the tank for the centre-back. Was great to see him rise and send yet another header home.

Jack Simpson 6

Had very little to do but kept it tidy with the ball at his feet.

Joel Bagan 7

Another who impressed with an inverted wing-back role. Slotted the ball through nicely for Robinson's goal.

Ryan Wintle 6

Couldn't quite get out to Redmond for his goal, but was hardly his fault. Booked for a heavy challenge.

Joe Ralls 6

Buzzed around in the middle of the park and pinged the ball around quite nicely, with a more packed midfield due to the wing-backs joining.

Kieron Evans 6

Probably didn't dazzle as much as against Penybont at the weekend, but nice to see the intent when he's on the ball.

Callum Robinson 6

Took his goal really well, on the half turn before sliding underneath the goalkeeper. Nice to see him link with Etete, too.

Sheyi Ojo 6

Hit a lovely cross for McGuinness to head home. Didn't see a huge deal of him after that, though.

Kion Etete 6

Played a lot with his back to goal and had to use his physicality. Didn't get a great deal of chances, but linked up encouragingly with Robinson.

Second-half team

Ryan Allsop 6

Came to punch clear a cross and ended up flattening Eli King. Not particularly bad other than that.

Mahlon Romeo 6

Hammered one shot late on but it was way over the bar. Another who was solid if not standing out.

Eli King 7

Did well again as a makeshift centre-back. Was comfortable spraying passes with the ball at his feet. Really composed defensively, too.

Xavier Benjamin 5

Caught out once or twice at the back, once resulting in allowing Josh Daniels through on goal, and his passing was a little off, but did OK. Needs a loan.

Vontae Campbell 5

Struggled a little at left back. Hit the odd aimless ball down the line and got booked after getting skinned by Josh Daniels on the wing.

Andy Rinomhota 6

Will never stand out in games when City are on top, he suits the dogfight a little more. Skied a chance after being set up by Joel Colwill before rifling a late effort just over.

Ebou Adams 6

Worked hard in the middle of the park and did the simple things well. Good to see him in a City shirt.

Rubin Colwill 6

Smashed one free-kick into the wall and one shot deflected wide later on after a nice spin. Played a nice ball through for Tanner's goal.

Joel Colwill 8 (star man)

Probably the pick of the bench in the second-half team. Burst forward with strong runs and won free-kicks. A really positive showing.

Ollie Tanner 7

One or two positive runs down the left, one of which resulted in a Joel Colwill shot, but took his goal so well. Drove 30 yards before whacking a deflected shot home off his weaker foot.

Max Watters 5

Never really got a look-in, no chances to speak of. Game passed him by a little.
