Cardiff City news as Joe Ralls backs Sabri Lamouchi to stay and boss hits out at fixture pile-up

Here's your round-up of all the latest Cardiff City news for Monday, May 1.

Ralls backs Sabri for Cardiff City stay

Cardiff City captain Joe Ralls says he hopes Sabri Lamouchi and Sol Bamba stay at the club beyond the end of this season.

Lamouchi's current short-term deal expires at the end of the current campaign and, having secured Championship safety, speculation over is already starting to build over what will happen next.

The Frenchman has already suggested he would be keen to stay on at the Cardiff City Stadium, but has also stressed the decision is largely out of his hands, and will instead be made by the club's hierarchy.

Chairman Mehmet Dalman has already admitted he would like to keep Lamouchi on board, and talks over a new deal may well get underway soon.

Ralls, who made his 350th appearance for the club in the defeat to Huddersfield Town on Sunday, is similarly keen to keep the current regime on board.

"Yeah. Course," he replied when asked if he'd like the former Nottingham Forest boss to stay.

"He's been brilliant with me and the lads. Obviously I knew Sol well from before, but they've both come in and done the job. They've shown great enthusiasm to work, and have been brilliant on the training pitch.

"Hopefully they can stay with us."

Davies tipped for big season

Meanwhile, Joe Ralls has tipped youngster Isaak Davies for a big season next term.

The Welshman struggled to make an impact on this campaign due to injury, but offered a timely reminder of his capabilities with a well-taken strike in the defeat to the Terriers.

"I'm buzzing for Isaak," the midfielder said. "He's a great lad and a really good player; I really like him. I think he's shown what we can do in the box. He loves scoring goals, and does it in training all the time.

"He's not had a lot of luck this year, so hopefully he can have a better season next year, with regards to injuries, and really kick on.

"You saw Rubin as well when he came on. He did really well, and nearly scored a brilliant goal. It's great to see some of the young lads getting a chance and taking it."

Lamouchi fumes at fixture pile-up

Cardiff City boss Sabri Lamouchi has suggested the recent fixture pile-up was a key factor in his side's defeat to Huddersfield Town.

The visitors had 10 days to prepare for the trip, seven more than Cardiff, who had to recover from Thursday's win at Rotherham.

“We tried to play more of a passing style than we usually do, but you have to understand the context," Lamouchi said.

"This was the last day of April, and we have played eight games this month. Ten minutes in, Kion [Etete] is out with a hamstring injury. We had a problem with Perry before the game, Cédric [Kipre] before the break, with the captain after the break. These players have played a lot of games.

“I cannot praise these players enough. The goal was to stay in the Championship and the job is done. We cannot complain about our players. We played Rotherham 48 hours ago and we came back late that night. Huddersfield have had ten days to prepare for this game. It’s a huge difference, especially at the end of the season.”
