Michael Flynn is now the bookies' favourite to take over at Barnsley, despite links with Cardiff City.
The former Newport County boss is currently the 4/6 odds-on favourite with SkyBet to take over at Oakwell, following the recent departure of Markus Schopp.
Other contenders to take over in South Yorkshire include Joseph Laumann (3/1), Chris Wilder (10/1), and Luis Boa Morte (14/), but the inclusion of Flynn offers an intriguing potential twist in Cardiff's search for a long-term successor to Mick McCarthy.
Flynn is also the 4/11 odds-on favourite to take the Bluebirds job, although it's understood that while his name has been mentioned his status as favourite has perhaps been exaggerated somewhat.
Having previously shown an interest in appointing a younger coach, there is a feeling within some corners of the Cardiff boardroom that the next man in the hot-seat may need some degree of Championship experience to help galvanise an under-performing squad that's currently sliding towards a relegation battle.
Chris Hughton and Paul Warne, the latter of whom has also been linked with a move to Oakwell, are among the names that have already been floated, but a move for previous front-runner Chris Wilder now seems unlikely.
The likes of Jody Morris and Michael Beale have not yet been ruled out, nor has the possibility of Steve Morison taking charge beyond the next two games.
Odds for next Barnsley boss in full:
Michael Flynn 4/6
Joseph Laumann 3/1
Chris Wilder 10/1
Luis Boa Morte 14/1
Alex Neil 16/1
Hannes Wolf 16/1
Mick McCarthy 16/1
Christian Ilzer 18/1
Martin Devaney 18/1
Neil Harris 18/1
