Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock 'surprised' he was able to sign Bristol City midfield general Marlon Pack

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock has praised Bristol City's professionalism after signing midfield general Marlon Pack late on transfer deadline day.

Warnock says Pack, 28, will bring intangible benefits to his side who are back in the Championship after getting relegated from the Premier League last season.

Despite fee being undisclosed, Bristol Live understand, the Bluebirds agreed a £4m deal for the midfielder, who had been at Ashton Gate since a 2013 move from Cheltenham Town.

Cardiff have paid between £750k to £1m up front for Pack, and the Robins will receive the rest of the money in installments.

Pack has also received a pay rise in the deal.

Speaking to the press this morning , Warnock said: "For a manager to have someone like that on the field, it’s like Sol and Gunnarsson, you don’t coach people like that, who talk and tell people what to do. So I was surprised. I just feel we are more of a team.

“We’ve got competition for places now, I thought we were one short in midfield. Three or four in this country, abroad, loanees.

“Bristol City were impeccable with how they dealt with Reid and Marlon Pack. Lee Johnson and Steve Lansdown were spot on.”

Pack will not be teaming up with his former Robins team mate Bobby Reid at Cardiff with the attacker making a deadline day switch to Fulham on loan for the season with an option to buy.

Warnock said there had been no falling out with him and Reid.
