Cardiff City and Leeds United have been told they will have to cough up "significantly more" than £2 million if they want to sign Portsmouth winger Jamal Lowe.
Local media outlet The News report Pompey will take a firm stand on their valuation of the player who scored 17 goals in League One last season.
It had been thought the 22-year-old would be available for a cut-price fee as he only has one year remaining on his contract.
But it's emerged Portsmouth have the option to activate a one-year extension to that deal and are under no pressure to sell him
Leeds and Cardiff are among a number of Championship clubs reported to be interested , with the likes of West Brom and Middlesbrough also in the mix.
Portsmouth boss Kenny Jackett recently said: “I can’t speak for other sides, we haven't had any bids yet and nobody has told me they are necessarily coming."
The Bluebirds may have a potential bargaining advantage over their rivals, with Portsmouth interested in signing striker Omar Bogle after a relatively successful loan spell there last season.
Cardiff have also recently been linked with a move for former Tottenham and Fulham star Lewis Holtby.
