Cardiff City 'in talks' to sign Charlton's Jonny Williams before transfer deadline

Cardiff City are being linked with a move for Charlton and Wales midfielder Jonny Williams.

The BBC and the Sun report that Mick McCarthy is keen to bring the 27-year-old to Cardiff City Stadium ahead of the transfer window deadline, which shuts on Monday at 11pm.

Williams would be McCarthy's first deal of his Cardiff tenure, and has signed the Wales international twice before, both times on loan, while at Ipswich Town.

The former Sunderland man is out of contract this summer, with the BBC adding that a deal could be wrapped up for as little as £200,000 and that the Bluebirds are 'in talks' to get it done.

League One Charlton are believed to be keen on cashing in on Williams instead of losing him for free at the end of the campaign.

Meanwhile, McCarthy has said it would be "just wrong" to talk about Sheffield Wednesday's Jordan Rhodes amid speculation linking him with a move to south Wales.

Rhodes has been a name linked with the Bluebirds in previous windows too.

"I wouldn't comment on any transfer news as it might compromise any deal. I wouldn't comment on anything," McCarthy said after the 1-1 draw with Millwall on Saturday.

"So you can take that whether I am or I'm not.

"But I wouldn't tell anybody anyway because it's just wrong. It's wrong for the players we have in the building. It's wrong for the two clubs involved.

"I fully understand you asking though."
