Cardiff City in shock swoop to hijack deal for Swansea City target Max Watters

Cardiff City are reportedly set to hijack a deal for Crawley Town striker and Swansea City target Max Watters.

The Bluebirds are keen to add a forward this month and Neil Harris on Thursday said he expects a player to arrive by Saturday evening.

The City boss said he would not like any players to leave without replacements being brought in, so after Gavin Whyte sealed a loan move to Hull City on Thursday it was expected that a forward player would be recruited.

And Football Insider claim that Cardiff have identified prolific Crawley Town striker Watters as the man to bolster the top end of the pitch.

WalesOnline understands that Swansea held real interest in the 21-year-old, however they baulked at the prospect of paying Crawley's asking price which is thought to be upwards of £1m.

It is now understood that Swansea have turned their attentions to a loan move for Seattle Sounders front man Jordan Morris.

Watters is enjoying a breakthrough season with the League Two outfit, who knocked Premier League outfit Leeds United out of the FA Cup last weekend with an emphatic 3-0 win, having netted 16 times in 19 matches this term.

Cardiff have been keen to add a striker to the ranks, with the Bluebirds having struggled in front of goal since Kieffer Moore sustained an injury at the beginning of December.

Robert Glatzel has struggled to find the back of the net consistently, while Cardiff's other option is inexperienced academy product Mark Harris.

So, the potential addition of Watters, who Crawley director Erdem Konyar has recently branded the "most valuable player in England", would certainly bolster an area which certainly need strengthening in this Cardiff squad.

Crawley boss John Yems has also recently compared the striker to Arsenal legend Ian Wright.

“I think Max is Premier League,” Yems told the Mirror.

“He reminds me of Ian Wright, his enthusiasm to play and the way he is. He’s got a real hunger. He’s a good kid, good family.”
