Cardiff City identify Neil Harris, Chris Hughton and Lee Bowyer as Neil Warnock replacements - reports

Cardiff City have reportedly set their sights on Neil Harris, Lee Bowyer and Chris Hughton as the main contenders to succeed Neil Warnock.

Warnock parted company with the Bluebirds on Monday by mutual consent and now the club will try to replace the manager as quickly as possible.

The Daily Mail report that Harris is the favourite to land the job, having left his post at Millwall earlier this season.

The 42-year-old, who always boasted a good relationship with Warnock while in The Den hotseat, lifted the Lions to the Championship from League One during his time there.

The Times , meanwhile, believe former Brighton boss Chris Hughton is one of the club's top targets. Hughton has a record of leading teams to Premier League promotion, having done so with both Newcastle and Brighton in the past, and is thought to be a manager held in high esteem by the Bluebirds hierarchy.

Bowyer, meanwhile, has seen his reputation shoot through the roof in recent seasons and as such The Times also report that he is another leading contender to take the job.

Bowyer led Charlton into the Championship last season and is thought to be one of the brightest British managers in the game.

It has been an underwhelming start to the season for the Bluebirds and whoever takes the job will have a job on their hands to propel them up the table.

However Warnock leaves his post with the firm belief that this squad is capable of challenging at the top end of the table and has wished the next manager every success .
