Cardiff City headlines as Steve Morison pinpoints potential Rubin Colwill improvement and Sheffield United boss gives Bluebirds verdict

Here's your round-up of all the latest Cardiff City news for Friday, December 3.

Morison lays down challenge for Colwill

Cardiff boss Steve Morison has told exciting youngster Rubin Colwill that he needs to improve the physical side of his game if he's going to match up to his potential as a future Bluebirds hero.

The 19-year-old is once again the subject of conversation after netting in 2-1 win over Luton Town last Saturday, with Morison admitting this week that he is expecting transfer interest in the teenager when the window re-opens next month.

But while he's clearly a keen admirer of the of the young playmaker, Morison says he needs to work more on certain aspects of his game, including his aerial prowess.

"He's a talent. A joy to watch when he's in full flow. But I think if you look at him, I still don't think he's where he needs to be in terms of his body.

"He's 6ft 4 and doesn't know how to use his body. He's 6ft 4in and can't head the ball.

"Imagine if he could do the things he can do with the football and could head the ball and use his body. That's what we've worked on.

"There's so much more to him and the world's his oyster and he will be what he wants to be because he'll put in the work and the effort.

"It's exciting to be a part of it and hopefully we can help him along and manage him to where he needs to get to."

Sheff Utd wary of Bluebirds' aerial threat

Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom has told his side to be wary of the physical presence posed by Morison's side on Saturday.

The Blades head to south Wales seeking a third consecutive win, while Cardiff's victory at Kenilworth Road handed them a third success in four games.

“Cardiff have scored the most headed goals in the league by a long way,” the United manager said. “And it’s not just from set plays, it’s in open play too. So that’s something we have to be mindful of.

“We want to compete. We have to compete. But also set the tempo and make sure the game is played how we want it to be played - impose ourselves on it.”

Forest clash moved

Cardiff's home clash with Nottingham Forest in January has been moved for TV coverage.

Initially pencilled in for a 3pm kick-off on Saturday, January 29, 2022, the game has now been pushed back to 4pm on Sunday, January 30, and will be played in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

Cardiff triumphed 2-1 in the reverse meeting at the City Ground back in September, courtesy of a brace from youngster Colwill.

The game will also see a return to South Wales for former Swansea City boss Steve Cooper, who took over from Chris Hughton in the Forest hotseat earlier in the season.

Cardiff in the hat for FA Cup

Cardiff will find out their FA Cup third round opponents on Monday, December 6 at 7pm.

The draw will be televised on ITV4 following coverage of Boreham Wood v St Albans City.

Cardiff will take ball number 12.
