Cardiff City headlines as star issues rallying cry, ex-boss wants Ipswich job and Birmingham City get triple boost

Here's your round-up of all the latest Cardiff City headlines for Friday, December 10.

Harris - everyone will be needed

Mark Harris says every member of Cardiff's squad will need to be prepared to step up over the coming festive period.

A typically busy Christmas schedule includes clashes with three of the current top seven, and Harris admits the depth of Steve Morison's squad will likely be tested over the weeks.

“Everybody knows what the Christmas period is like," he said.

"There are going to be games coming thick and fast, and everybody is going to be needed. All the lads are ready for when we are called upon, and it’s just about getting as many points as we can from these games.

“The more games, the better. Everybody wants to be playing, so we’ve all got to be pushing ourselves now to better our performances, and hopefully the results come with it."

Cardiff head to St Andrew's to take on a Birmingham City side that have won three of their last four home games this weekend, and Harris hopes his side can build on the signs of promise shown in the defeat to Sheffield United last time out.

“We’re all looking forward to the game on Saturday, and hopefully getting three points," he added.

"After the result on last weekend, we’re looking at going up there and putting in a good performance.

“I’ve seen that there are 1,500 fans going up, and they’ve been great all season with us. Hopefully we can go up there and give a good performance, and hopefully we can get the win.

“It was 4-0 last season. I came on at half time that game, and to get a goal was obviously good for me. A repeat of that wouldn’t be too bad!”

Birmingham receive triple injury boost

Birmingham have welcomed Maxime Colin back to training ahead of the visit of the Bluebirds on Saturday.

The defender has been out since October with an Achilles problem, but has joined Matija Sarkic and Tate Campbell in returning to training this week.

Head coach Lee Bowyer said: “Max Colin will be back in about 10 days' time training with us, so he is coming back at a crucial time.

“He is outside running now with medical team, then next week he will be out doing the next stage with the sports science lads, so it will be more football orientated, running, physical work – and then he will be allowed to start training with us.

“I don’t want to chuck a date on it, it depends how he comes back, he has been out a long time. I have just seen him in the corridor and he is feeling good.

“He will have been working hard on the bike, in the gym, swimming and stuff like that – but being back on the grass to catch up might take a bit of time.”

Young Bluebirds taste first defeat

Cardiff City Under-23s have been beaten for the first time this season.

The young Bluebirds had previously won all of their opening 11 games of the current campaign, but slipped to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Millwall on Friday afternoon.

Tyrese Briscoe's strike on 37 minutes was enough to hand the Lions victory, and Millwall boss Kevin Nugent was full of praise for his young side.

"It was a deserved win," he told millwallfc.co.uk.

"We played very well in the first half, and that's against a team who had won every game up until now. It was nice for us to break that cycle.

"It was a really hard-fought game. In the second half we weren't as good as we were in the first, but we still managed to find a way to win the game. At the same time, though, we still managed to create a few chances for ourselves. The goal came from a fantastic ball from Thommo and a nice cross from Kai."

Neil Harris keen on Ipswich

Former City boss Neil Harris is reportedly keen on taking over at Ipswich Town.

According to the East Anglian Daily Times, Harris is believed to be a candidate of 'real interest' to the club's American owners, who showed predecessor Paul Cook the door on Saturday.

Harris reportedly has family links to Suffolk and was thought to have shown interest in the role before Cook was appointed in March.
