Cardiff City headlines as Ryan Wintle's Blackpool future shrouded in mystery, Morison's loan statement and Bournemouth have Covid cases in camp

These are your Cardiff City headlines on Tuesday, December 28.

Wintle's future up in the air

Blackpool boss Neil Critchley says he is unsure whether Ryan Wintle will at the club beyond January.

Wintle missed the Tangerines' Boxing Day clash with Huddersfield Town and the manager addressed the future of the Cardiff City loanee.

“We don’t know because obviously he’s Cardiff’s player and they can recall him, that’s the agreement that’s in place in January which is normal for every loan player," he said.

“It’s something we’ve discussed internally about Ryan, because he’s been brilliant for us.

“He was a miss for us but Sonny (Carey), for a 20-year-old boy who was playing in an unfamiliar position, was outstanding.

“It’s something we’ll discuss about Ryan but that might be in a few days time because January’s in a few days' time and we’ve got a game to think about first.”

Morison's loan statement

Meanwhile, Cardiff Steve Morison says the Bluebirds will consider any recalls of their loan players when the time is right.

With January looking like it could be a tricky month in which to do business, Cardiff may have to look at internal solutions to boost their ranks.

"We can only call them back at certain times," Morison said at his pre-Bournemouth press conference.

"When those dates approach we’ll decide whether we’re going to call them back or not."

Cardiff have Wintle, Josh Murphy, Gavin Whyte and Max Watters currently out on loan.

Bournemouth have Covid cases in camp

Thursday night's opponents Bournemouth have a "couple of cases” in their camp, boss Scott Parker has confirmed.

The Bluebirds head to the south coast to take on the Cherries after a number of postponements.

Speaking to the Daily Echo, Parker said: “Lloyd (Kelly) tested positive for COVID in the week. We have a couple of cases.

“Hopefully Lloydy comes back now and gets some negatives.”

Asked whether it ruled out the 23-year-old against the Bluebirds, the Cherries boss said: “I don’t think it does.

“Now it was probably eight days ago or something like that. We now need to go through protocol and get a negative test.

“Today was too quick and he didn’t train yesterday. Hopefully Cardiff will be fine.”

Summer target moves on

Bolton are closing in on Dion Charles, a former target of the Bluebirds.

The Accrington Stanley striker is on the verge of a six-figure move, according to The Bolton News.

Northern Ireland international Charles was on Cardiff's radar back in the summer.

Having refused to sign a new contract with Stanley he has been pushed to the periphery.

Manager John Coleman described the situation as a “Mexican Stand-off” and the 26-year-old has been limited to just a handful of appearances this term.

Murphy nearing training return

Cardiff's Josh Murphy is closing in on a first-team return for loan club Preston.

The Bluebirds winger has been sat on the sidelines since October after he sustained an ankle injury in training.

The Lancashire Evening Post report that he should back out on the grass next week.

It’s been a frustrating spell for Murphy at Deepdale, with him having been limited to just seven substitute appearances.

The former £11million Norwich City man is out of contract in south Wales next summer and he is expected to move on when it expires.
