Cardiff City headlines as Millwall eye Middlesbrough star and former Bluebirds target

Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Sunday, December 19.

Millwall eye Cardiff summer target

Millwall are reportedly eyeing up a January swoop for Middlesbrough striker and Cardiff City summer transfer target Uche Ikpeazu.

The striker was on the Bluebirds' radar in the summer after impressing for Wycombe Wanderers against Cardiff twice last season.

However, Mick McCarthy opted to add only James Collins to the club's strike force in the summer window.

Ikpeazu started the season well under Neil Warnock but has seemingly fallen out of favour up on Teesside, with new boss Chris Wilder reportedly prepared to let him go in the new year.

Now, The Sun reporter Alan Nixon has claimed Millwall could be interested in a loan deal or even signing the player permanently if the price was right.

Boro's January pursuit of Folarin Balogun of Arsenal might have a bearing on proceedings, too.

Ikpeazu has scored twice in 20 games in all competitions for Boro this term.

Purse: Could not be happier with new job

Darren Purse has said he "could not be happier" after it was announced he will take over as Cardiff City under-23s manager.

The club announced the former Bluebirds captain will take over after Steve Morison's promotion to the first-team job.

And the ex-defender, who left Oxford United's academy setup to take the job, has spoken of his delight following his appointment.

"Could not be happier," he wrote on Twitter. "Delighted to be back at this great club and supporting the young players on their footballing journey.

"I will be as committed and passionate about my role @CardiffCityFC as I was as a captain and player."

What happened to the 32 players who won promotion?

Cardiff City's last promotion to the Premier League seems like a lifetime ago now, given everything which has gone on both on and off the pitch since that momentous feat was achieved.

That 2017/18 promotion-winning campaign will stand out for many as their favourite following the Bluebirds, a season in which Neil Warnock architected an unlikely surge to the top of the league after taking over with the club in trouble the year before.

That squad, along with the manager of course, reunited the fan base with the club during a season which swept fans off their feet.

In the subsequent years, though, that squad has slowly been dismantled, meaning only two players from that season are still at the club.

Here , we take a look at every player who played a league game for Cardiff that season and what has happened to them since...
