Cardiff City headlines as Bluebirds battle Sheffield United and Southampton for starlet and players lead tributes to Phil Dwyer

Here's your round-up of all the latest Cardiff City headlines for Wednesday, December 1.

Cardiff tracking Freckleton

Cardiff City are reportedly among a clutch of clubs keen on non-league starlet Miguel Freckleton.

The 18-year-old defender was once on the books at Bristol Rovers, but is now plying his trade at Southern League Division One South and West side Mangotsfield United.

And our colleagues at Bristol Live claim he is now on the radar of City and Southampton, although Sheffield United are believed to be leading the race for his signature.

The centre-back is thought to have impressed while on trial at the Blades, where he reportedly held his own against senior pros in a behind-closed-doors contest.

But Cardiff believe they are still firmly in the hunt to land the teenager, although Hull City are also seemingly among the contenders.

Ralls pays tribute to Dwyer

Joe Ralls has paid tribute to Cardiff legend Phil Dwyer, who has passed away at the age of 68.

Tributes have been pouring in for the former Welsh international, who played a club record 471 games for the Bluebirds.

Taking to social media, Ralls wrote: "Really sad news, I met Phil on a number of occasions at the stadium, a Cardiff City great and a lovely man. RIP Phil, thoughts are with his family and friends."

Young Bluebirds urged to keep soaring

Academy coach Matthew Bloxham has urged Cardiff's under-23s to keep striving for success after their blistering start to the season.

The young Bluebirds eased to a 2-0 win over Colchester United this week, securing their tenth win in as many outings, but Bloxham hopes that the team can keep pushing.

He said: "They've started the season really well, and have built a foundation that will hopefully serve them going into the second half of the campaign.

"To win ten in a row at any level is an achievement that they should be proud of. One of the biggest strengths that we can look at is that we've conceded the least amount of goals in the league, as well. It's not just the top end of the pitch, it's everyone who's going about their business and are doing so effectively.

"With that, there was a sense of frustration to have not scored more today. We created a number of opportunities and could have been more ruthless in those areas.

"We've done enough with this performance, but we still have aspects of our game to work on, and it's something that we'll be working on with our return next week in mind."
