Cardiff City handed injury scare as star limps off on international duty

Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock faces a fresh injury worry ahead of his side's clash with Chelsea on Sunday, after Callum Paterson limped off during Scotland's Euro 2020 qualifier with San Marino.

The Bluebirds star landed awkwardly when going up for a header 32 minutes into proceedings at the San Marino Stadium, seemingly rolling his ankle before being replaced by Hibernian's Marc McNulty.

It comes after Paterson was rested by boss Alex McLeish for the humiliating 3-0 defeat in Kazakhstan, due to concerns over the plastic surface at the Astana Arena - a decision that sparked fierce criticism north of the English border.

Now, he could well be set to add to Neil Warnock's injury concerns ahead of what is a crucial run-in for his side's hopes of Premier League survival.

Cardiff head into Sunday's clash with Chelsea two points adrift of safety, and losing Paterson will be considered a big blow to Warnock, who has already seen Sol Bamba ruled out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury.

Like Bamba, Paterson has played a key role in Cardiff's season, making 29 appearances in all competitions, netting four goals.
