Cardiff City goalkeeper Joe Day seals AFC Wimbledon switch

Cardiff City goalkeeper Joe Day has agreed a short-term loan deal with League One outfit AFC Wimbledon.

Neil Harris has been working hard to get Day out on loan in order for him to have some crucial minutes under his belt after being largely third choice at Cardiff City Stadium all season.

He was brought in by Neil Warnock last summer to fill the void should one of Neil Etheridge or Alex Smithies leave the Welsh capital. Both, however, ended up staying.

It has meant Day has largely been consigned to the under-23s this season and, with three senior goalkeepers on the books, it all looked a little lopsided.

However, at the start of the January window, West Ham had shown interest in signing Etheridge, with first-choice Lukasz Fabianski enduring some rotten luck with injuries.

It might well have meant that Day was close to becoming the No.2 at Cardiff City Stadium, however the Hammers opted for Darren Randolph from Middlesbrough and subsequently dropped their interest in the Philippines international.

So Cardiff were once again looking for options for Day, with a move to Bristol Rovers falling through after the Gas signed Jamal Blackman.

But Day will now move to South West London until the end of the season, becoming the fifth Cardiff player to leave the club this month.
