Cardiff City full-back Greg Cunningham completes deadline day loan to Blackburn Rovers

Cardiff City full-back Greg Cunningham has completed a loan move to Blackburn Rovers.

The Irishman is one of three players to leave the Bluebirds on deadline day, with Bobby Reid and Loic Damour joining Fulham and Hearts respectively.

The full-back's future at the Cardiff City Stadium was the subject of speculation before deadline day, with the player understood to be keen on seeking first team football away from the Welsh capital, having made just seven appearances last season.

It marks a return to the north-west for the 28-year old, who started his career at Manchester City before becoming a firm fixture at Preston North End, whom he left to join the Bluebirds in June 2018.

Speaking on the back of his move to Rovers, Cunningham said: "I just want to play games and I want to play football.

"When a club the calibre of Blackburn comes in, it's a no brainer.

"I am over the moon to get it all done and dusted and I just want to get settled up in the area again and get going. When the club came in I was buzzing to get it done.

"I know that I have a responsibility to do everything I can for the club and that's why I'm here. I want to play games and I want enjoy my football.

"I really think I can do that here."

Cunningham won'f be eligible to play against his parent club.
