Cardiff City contracts update as Bruno Manga looks set for new deal

Cardiff City are ready to offer Bruno Manga a new two-year contract as reward for the defender's fine performances in the Premier League.

The Gabon centre-back is one of the contenders for Bluebirds player of the season, having missed just 45 minutes of action in all competitions this term.

And although his current deal is due to expire in the summer, it is understood Cardiff have an extra year to trigger, but Neil Warnock wants to offer Manga a two-year extension.

Kadeem Harris is another player who could be offered an extra 12 months, with a year to trigger on Jazz Richards' contract if Cardiff choose to do so.

Of the other players whose contracts expire in the summer, Aron Gunnarsson has already agreed a move to Qatari club, while Brian Murphy, Loic Damour and Stuart O'Keefe could all depart.

"He wants to stay, yeah," said Warnock when asked about Manga's contract situation.

"I've not had much time but probably over the next 24 hours I'll be having a chat with Bruno and one of the other lads who I'd like to offer something.

"I've spoken to Bruno briefly because I'd personally like Bruno to have a couple of years, personally — because I don't think we'd get anybody better than him, I think he's been superb as he was on Sunday (versus Chelsea)."

Warnock added that he believed Manga would thrive against Man City at the Etihad Stadium tonight.

The 30-year-old has brought a cool head to the Bluebirds' defence this season, helping them keep eight clean sheets — more than Manchester United and Arsenal have managed.

"I think he'll be looking forward to Man City," added Warnock. "Those kind of games, he just lifts himself.

"I think there'll be a few plusses on Wednesday from our point of view and I'm sure Bruno will be one."
