Cardiff City confirm one of their players is self-isolating following coronavirus postponement

Cardiff City, who were due to play Leeds United this weekend, have confirmed that one of their players is self-isolating amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The Bluebirds were due to host Leeds on Sunday but that game was postponed after the EFL followed the Premier League in shelving all games due to the outbreak.

No matches are set to be played until April 3 at the very earliest.

Cardiff last night announced that a player, who has not been named, and a member of staff are self-isolating but that neither has tested positive for the virus and that the measure is precautionary.

Cardiff manager Neil Harris told the club's website: "We are fully aware, as I think most other teams are at the moment, that the danger is out there."

Cardiff chairman Mehmet Dalman doubts whether the Football League will be able to return to action early in April.

He said: "I am not very optimistic that April 3 is when we will all go back to normality.

"This is the beginning of something that we genuinely do not know what we are walking into. In my mind I am certainly preparing myself for a much more prolonged postponement.

"We are dealing with a very unknown and a very dangerous virus. So it is not easy to make an informed decision,

"The government and the authorities are acting with caution. I would rather be more cautious than reckless."

The postponements affect three Leeds games in total.

As well as the clash against Cardiff, home games against Fulham and Luton Town have been postponed whilst the away fixture at Blackburn falls on April 3 - the prospective date for when EFL matches are to be resumed.
