Cardiff City chasing St Johnstone star but face competition from Barnsley and Bristol City - reports

Cardiff City are reportedly keeping tabs on St Johnstone defender Jason Kerr, but could well face stiff competition for his signature.

According to the Scottish Sun , the Bluebirds are just one of several clubs keen on the 22-year-old, having watched him regularly over the last six months.

However, they are set to face competition from newly-promoted Barnsley, who have made Kerr their top transfer target for the summer in light of Liam Lindsay's expected departure.

The Tykes had a £250,000 offer rejected in January, but look set to rekindle their interest this summer.

Cardiff boss Neil Warnock is looking to add depth to his squad ahead of the new Championship season as they look to seal a return back to the Premier League at the first attempt, and the one-time Scotland under-21 international may well be seen as a good fit.

But they may have to dig deep.

Kerr recently signed a new three-year deal with St Johnstone, who as a result are believed to be under no pressure to sell.

There have been some suggestions from local outlets that a bid of seven figures is likely to be required if any club is hoping to prise him away from McDiarmid Park.

Despite only completing one season in the Scottish Premiership, Kerr has nearly 200 games under his belt, having enjoyed loan stints at East Fife and Queen of the South.
