Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock throws grenade in Leeds United, Sheffield United and Norwich City promotion battle

Neil Warnock has tipped Sheffield United to join Norwich City in earning automatic promotion from the Championship this season - adding that Leeds United have a "soft belly".

The Bluebirds boss, who's managed both the Blades and Leeds in his extensive managerial career, believes Wilder's side are now in pole position to finish in the division's top two following their 1-0 win at Elland Road.

Warnock took his boyhood club to the Premier League himself back in 2006, and believes that Wilder's side will get the job done this time around.

The Blades are currently just one point clear of Leeds in second, but Warnock believes Marcelo Bielsa's side are not as well-equipped to deal with the pressure of a Championship promotion race.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Warnock said: "The team Chris has built, last year they were one of the best sides we played and he’s got a way of playing that’s very difficult to play against. He’s improved the squad and he’s got options.

"I think they’ll be very difficult to push out of that top two. I just think Leeds have got a soft belly at times at the back, when they’re under pressure, in comparison to the other two. I think those two (Norwich and Sheffield United) will be the favourites."

This is how much Swansea City, Leeds United and Norwich City have earned from TV money in the Championship so far

From the outside, it would be easy to conclude that Warnock has few fond memories of his time at Elland Road.

An ill-fated 13-month spell came to an end in 2013, with Warnock leaving Leeds in serious danger of relegation to League One.

However, Warnock insists he's still fond of his old employers, paying tribute to the work done by Bielsa in getting them to the cusp of a return to the Premier League after a 15-year absence.

He added: "Leeds, what a club. They fill the stadium for every game whatever division they’re in and they’re so desperate to get back into the league. He’s done a good job, Bielsa."
