Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock makes dig at Swansea City atmosphere following derby defeat

Neil Warnock has said he will be disappointed if the atmosphere for the return derby clash at Cardiff City Stadium was as subdued as it was in Swansea after Cardiff City fell to defeat in the South Wales derby.

Following the match, the Bluebirds boss implored his defenders to take responsibility after another sloppy goal let slip a golden opportunity to earn the spoils.

It compounded Tuesday night's disappointment at Millwall, where Warnock was furious with his team's defending after they lost the lead twice to come away with only a point.

And it was another lapse in concentration that ultimately cost City dearly today as Ben Wilmot coasted in unmarked to head home the winner in the first half.

The most frustrating thing for Warnock, however, is how comfortable he felt at the Liberty Stadium, admitting he was expecting a far more intimidating atmosphere.

"Players have to be responsible and do what they’re supposed to do," he said of his players' poor defending. "We got punished for not being on our game.

"We have been punished in most games, especially away from home. We have to defend better. We’ve got to learn the lessons, but we haven’t so far.

"I just felt it was there to be won today. I know it’s a local derby, but I thought we quietened the crowd down.

"I’ll be disappointed in the return match if it’s not a lot louder than that."

The loss means, after eight away matches this season, Cardiff are still without a win on the road this season.

The result sees them slip to 14th in the Championship table and the manager desperately hopes the next two games, at home to Bristol City and Charlton Athletic, yields two wins to quickly stop the rot.

The manager hopes to have both Lee Tomlin and Junior Hoilett at his disposal for those games after revealing they were both in contention to play in the derby had they not pulled up in training on the eve of the match.

"We only lost Tomlin and Hoilett yesterday," he said. "They were both going to be fit and then during training they both pulled up.

"I thought the pockets of space for Tomlin would have been what we were looking for but it's not worth risking them.

"He's going to have an injection tomorrow and hopefully he will be alright for the weekend."
