Cardiff City boss Neil Harris targets record-breaking Spanish winger as his first signing - reports

Cardiff City boss Neil Harris is eyeing Spanish winger Gaspar Panadero as his first Bluebirds signing, according to reports.

Panadero, 21, has played for Spain at under-18 and under-19 level and Madrid-based newspaper AS claim Cardiff are one of three clubs chasing his signature.

They say Harris has eyed the flying and skillful Almeria wide-man as part of his plans for a Bluebirds promotion push in the new year.

Cardiff want to sign Panadero on a permanent basis, say AS, whereas the other two clubs are keen to land him on loan.

They are Almeria's Second Division rivals Burgos and Cypriot side Apollon Limassol.

But Panadero is reported to be more keen on a full-time move to the Bluebirds.

Harris wants to begin reshaping his squad in the January transfer window, accepting he needs to start moving players on to bring in the newcomers that he wants.

He has already taken Cardiff up to eighth in the Championship and they can go level on points with Preston and Nottingham Forest in the play-off positions with victory at Brentford this evening.

Panadero created history when he made his La Liga debut for Almeria at the age of 16 years and 277 days, coming on as a substitute against Cordoba. He became the youngest player to debut for the club and also one of the youngest players in La Liga history.

Panadero went on to play for Spain at age-grade level, before a bad knee injury hampered his progress.

However, after seven months on the sidelines he returned to action and has helped Almeria chase promotion back to La Liga this season. They are second in the table.

Panadero started the first 10 matches, but hasn't played since October and the club are ready to let him go.
