Cardiff City boss Mick McCarthy reveals what he 'loved' about Liverpool loanee Harry Wilson after dazzling cameo

Mick McCarthy has showered praise on playmaker Harry Wilson after the Liverpool loanee came off the bench to inspire another Cardiff City fightback.

Eyebrows were raised when the Liverpool loanee, regarded by many as the most talented attacking player in this City squad, was left among the substitutes for the 2-2 draw at Barnsley in midweek.

McCarthy, understandably, responded by insisting that no Cardiff player has any sort of divine right to be in his starting XI, and once again named Wilson on the bench for the visit of Millwall on Saturday.

This time, Wilson did get a run out, and arguably sent a message to his boss with a superb cameo that was capped by an assist for striker Kieffer Moore.

McCarthy may well face more questions over whether Wilson deserves a place in the starting XI in the build-up to next weekend's Severnside Derby, but admitted he was delighted by the player's response at Cardiff City Stadium.

He said: "I know he's been a starter and it's a surprise he hadn't played, but I loved his reaction today.

"He came on and created the goal, so I thought we had to scrap it again, and we played well today."

Wilson has seemingly blown hot and cold for Cardiff this season, with debate still raging over his best position.

McCarthy seems happy to play the forward across the frontline, but has hinted that a wide role could be the best fit for the 23-yuear old.

"I think he's a talented lad that can play a number of positions," he added.

"The best I've seen him play was on his wide right coming on his left foot, but he's a talented lad and it's nice he can play a number of positions. Sometimes though you have to nail one down for yourself.

"But he's done well today that's for sure."
