Cardiff City bait Bristol City fans with official announcement as Aden Flint signs from Middlesbrough

Cardiff City have announced the signing of former Bristol City fans' favourite Aden Flint - and they've taken the opportunity to wind up their arch rivals.

As revealed on Thursday, the towering centre-back has sealed a move to the Welsh capital just one year after joining Middlesbrough.

Cardiff are reported to be paying an initial fee of around £4m, which could rise to £6m with add-on clauses.

Flint is an iconic figure among Robins fans after scoring 37 goals from defence in 209 appearances during a five-year spell at Ashton Gate between 2013 and 2018.

With that in mind, the Bluebirds social media team has wasted no time in rubbing the transfer in City fans' faces, sharing an photo of Flint in front of wall adorned with a blown-up image of fellow former Robin Bobby Reid.

Reid joined Cardiff from the Robins last summer ahead of their ill-fated Premier League campaign, provoking vitriol from the Bristol City faithful.

In the photo, Flint has his arms over his head as though he is doing the Ayatollah celebration synonymous with the Welsh club.

Speaking to the Bluebirds' official website, the defender said: "I'm excited to be here and thankful for the opportunity.

"Everyone wants to play in the Premier League, and that's why I've joined. Hopefully we can get the right results, get promoted again, and have another opportunity to do that."

Flint was a regular under Tony Pulis at Boro making 39 Championship starts, but he failed to recapture his City form at the Riverside, being criticised by some Boro fans after they missed out on the play-offs last season.

New manager Middlesbrough manager Jonathan Woodgate is now overhauling the squad he inherited from Pulis.

The Robins were thought to be considering an offer to bring Flint back should Adam Webster depart Ashton Gate, but they are increasingly confident he will stay put.
