Cardiff City announce pre-season schedule with home games to be played away from Cardiff City Stadium

Cardiff City have announced their pre-season schedule ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Matches against Cambridge United, Newport County, Cheltenham Town, Shrewsbury Town and Swindon Town will take place across 15 days in July.

In a change to previous years, the Bluebirds' home friendlies will be played away from Cardiff City Stadium due to Wales playing their home matches in the capital during June. Fixtures will therefore take place at the Cardiff International Sports Stadium in order for ground staff to be able to prepare the Cardiff City Stadium pitch for the new term.

Steve Morison's men will start with two games in the capital, against Cambridge and the Exiles, before trips to Cheltenham, Shrewsbury and Swindon round off preparations.

The match against James Rowberry's will be played as two 60-minute games.

The club state on their website: "Due to the use of Cardiff City Stadium for the Welsh National Men’s team fixtures throughout June, the Cardiff City Stadium pitch will be unavailable for friendly fixtures to be played on it while it’s being prepared for the 2022/23 season.

"Our two home friendlies will thus be played at Cardiff International Sports Stadium in Leckwith, as detailed above. Ticketing and streaming information will follow in due course via this website."

The 2022-23 Championship season will start on the weekend of July 30.
