Cardiff City 'agree deal' to sign Liverpool star Harry Wilson as Swansea and Bristol City set for deadline day battle

Cardiff City have agreed a deal to sign Liverpool winger Harry Wilson on loan, according to fresh reports on Thursday night.

The Bluebirds have been embroiled in a battle with the likes of Swansea City, Nottingham Forest, Blackburn Rovers and Derby County for the player's services in recent days, with the Wales international having failed to secure a permanent move away to a Premier League club last week.

Now, though, Football Insider report that Cardiff on Thursday night agreed loan terms for 23-year-old Wilson in a huge twist.

The report also adds that both Swansea City and Bristol City, a late entry in the race for his signature, are preparing to step up their efforts to rival Cardiff for Wilson's services on deadline day.

Liverpool are said to be asking for a fee over more than £1m if they are to allow the Wrexham-born winger to leave on loan before Friday's 5pm deadline, a hurdle which has proved problematic for some Championship clubs.

Derby boss Phillip Cocu had poured cold water over the Rams' interest in Wilson, claiming any deal to bring him back to Pride Park was "very unlikely".

It had also been claimed that Swansea City, also considered frontrunners given their relationship with Liverpool after Rhian Brewster's successful loan spell last term, have already seen one offer knocked back by the Anfield outfit.

But if this latest revelation is to be believed, the Bluebirds will head into deadline day very much in the box seat.

Their rivals, however, namely Swansea and Bristol, might have something to say about that on the final day of the window.

WalesOnline understands that Wilson is a player Cardiff are seriously considering ahead of deadline day, with the Bluebirds hoping to bring in two players before the end of the window.

Cardiff are believed to have made their interest in Wilson known to Liverpool on Thursday.

Bluebirds boss Neil Harris has drawn up an exciting list of players he hopes to get over the line with 11th hour deals.

Barnsley's Cauley Woodrow and West Brom striker Charlie Austin are other men Cardiff are keen to bring in, and there is a further winger Harris is also believed to be looking at.

Wilson's wages, it is understood, are not thought to be a problem, but Liverpool's demand for a sizeable loan fee meant serious discussions have had to take place over the potential financial outlay.

Neil Harris has spoken on a number of occasions about adding an attacking player, with a striker, playmaker and winger all potential options for incomings.

And on Thursday Harris was confident he would do some business before the window closed, saying: "I’m confident we’ll be doing some business over the course of the next 36 hours."

Any deal would have to be completed by 5pm on Friday, October 16.
