Cardiff approach Wolves to take Dion Sanderson back to south Wales

Cardiff City have contacted Wolves in an attempt to lure Dion Sanderson back to the Bluebirds, according to reports.

MailOnline claims Premier League side have rejected the Championship outfit's request to cut short Sanderson's current loan at Sunderland so he could return to the Cardiff City Stadium.

The 21-year-old spent the second half of last season playing for Neil Harris' side and impressed at right-back during his tenure there.

Sanderson has struggled for game time so far at the Stadium of Light, but has forced his way into the starting XI under Lee Johnson.

Wolves rebuffed that request, with Sanderson saying he was happy on Wearside just last week.

Cardiff have now stepped up their pursuit of Crewe Alxeandra's right-back Perry Ng as they look to strengthen the position.

Neil Harris revealed that Arsenal loanee Jordi Osei-Tutu had suffered an injury setback in their defeat to Norwich City - making a right-back their priority in the January window.

Harris said: "Jordi, it's not season-ending, it's going to be four to six weeks, unfortunately.

"It's the same hamstring as before, so there is frustration in that, obviously, for me, the lad and the group.

"But right-back, again, as I said last week and the week before, is an absolute priority for this football club at the moment."
