Cardiff and Vale University Health Board announces plan for vaccine booster programme

A health board has shared its plans to distribute booster vaccines in South Wales.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board announced their plans to begin administering the coronavirus booster vaccine from Monday, September 20th.

The announcement outlined that currently the recipients would be: frontline staff, over 50s, and clinically vulnerable (and their families), and carers.

A spokesperson for the health board said: "We will be contacting all individuals who are eligible for a booster directly, so please wait to be contacted."

The statement outlined how the vaccines would be delivered to different age and ability groups.

Mobile vaccination teams will visit care homes to administer the booster jab "from Monday 20th September."

Frontline staff will be contacted with a booster appointment at a mass vaccination centre "in the order they received their first and second doses."

People aged over 80 will be offered a booster vaccine closer to their homes, either from a GP led centre or a community pharmacy. The health board has asked those eligible to not contact the GP or health board regarding this, as "everyone eligible will be contacted directly as we move through the programme."

Those remaining: people aged 50-79, adults of any age with an underlying health condition, carers, and household contacts of immunosuppressed individuals, will be invited to a booster vaccination "in due course".
