Cardiff 0 Liverpool 2: Gini Wijnaldum and James Milner seal key title win for Jurgen Klopp

Second-half strikes from Georginio Wijnaldum and James Milner were enough to send Liverpool back to the top of the Premier League with a 2-0 win over Cardiff City.

The Dutch midfielder struck home 12 minutes after the interval from a corner to hand the Reds the crucial goal in a tense game in South Wales, with Milner striking from the spot late on after Mohamed Salah was fouled.

Jurgen Klopp's side were the dominant side in the opening exchanges and should have taken the lead when Roberto Firmino was sent through on goal. The flag stayed down but somehow the Brazilian fired over.

It was Salah's chance to have a go on the Cardiff goal after a lovely turn past Sean Morrison but the Egyptian's effort was saved well by Neil Etheridge.

Cardiff had their chances too and it took a good save from Alisson to deny Oumar Niasse after a improvised effort from the striker.

After managing to keep it goalless at the break, the Reds stepped it up in the second half and soon found the opener. In came a low corner from Salah and there was Wijnaldum, completely unmarked, to smash home from close range.

The Bluebirds should have equalised on the hour mark through Morrison but the defender somehow missed an open goal, with the ball hitting his upper back and going out for a goal kick after an error from Alisson in the Liverpool goal.

Jurgen Klopp's side put the game beyond doubt when Salah was adjudged to have been brought down in the box by Morrison. The 27-year-old went down a touch easily and Cardiff were furious with the decision. It mattered little, however, as Milner stepped up to send Etheridge the wrong way and send Liverpool back to the top of the table.
