Cardi B has hinted that she is considering a career in politics.
The rapper, who is a vocal supporter of presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, sent a string of tweets over the weekend about a potential political career of her own.
“I think I want to be a politician,” she tweeted. “I really love government even tho I don’t agree with Goverment [sic].”
“Like I was watching War,” she continued. “No matter how many weapons a country have you need people ! How are you trying to go against a country and possibly start a war when this country lacks patriotism? I barely see people claiming they LOVE being American.”
Cardi B was previously defended by a former teacher after critics derided her for trying to discuss politics.
Joan Hill posted a now-viral message that read: “For those of you trashing Cardi B for representing a political voice, a) She probably scored higher than you on the US History regents exam and was in my AP govt glass b) You’re not nearly as busy as her, and what have you done to advance political discourse in this country? c) She has a national platform and is using it to speak about things that are important... Why can’t we respect that? STFU and take a seat.”
Cardi spoke at length to GQ last year about her fascination with Franklin Delano Roosevelt. She has mentioned several times that she had aspirations to be a history teacher and in an Instagram Live session, she noted that she spends much of her free time reading up on world political history.
“I went to college for this s**t,” she said. “It really gets me upset when people be like, oh, you’re dumb. I’m not dumb at this s**t!”
