Cardening is a real thing and experts have some tips

Since the start of lockdown there has been a trend of plant lovers growing their house plant collections to bring the outdoors in.

The UK’s love of houseplants has been steadily increasing over the past few years, so naturally lockdown was the perfect time to invest in our indoor jungles.

However, what was not predicted is a trend affectionately known as ‘Cardening’.

Bristol Street Motors has found some of the wackiest ways that people have taken their plant-obsession to new levels by featuring them in their cars.

Whilst this burst of green inside your car may look like high maintenance to some, and impractical to others, there are some key benefits to keeping plants in your car (in a safe position!)

  • Air purification
  • Reduce Stress Levels
  • Sharpen Your Attention

Firstly, plants are famed for their air purification qualities. Just as they do in the home, plants breathe in carbon dioxide and with it absorb toxins from the air and convert it into oxygen that we breathe.

Another reason you may want to keep house plants in your car is because of the wonders they can do for your mental health. As the prominent colour in nature, green has been proven to be a calming colour which can reduce your stress levels – goodbye road rage.

In some cases, plants have even been proven to improve concentration. Not a bad thing whilst driving.

The plants most likely to survive in a car are also the ones that need the least attending to. Think:

  • Cacti
  • Air plants
  • Succulents
  • String of pearls
  • Palms and
  • Snake plants

These plants rarely need watering and will survive quite happily on their own in a shady spot.

It is worth keeping in mind that anything that distracts you from driving or blocks your view, or your ability to operate the vehicle, could cause you to commit an offence.
